Hugo Ekitike to Newcastle United?

There is no doubt that this summers transfer window will be like a little Christmas for Newcastle United supporters. Their will be high expectations from the Toon Army for the club to make some significant signings to add to the successful January window.

According to Fabrizio Romano the first deal is well under way with Reims centre forward Hugo Ekitike agreeing to make the switch to the Premier League.

Newcastle Transfer Policy

It very well may be an indication of Newcastle’s transfer policy. Ekitike will turn 20 this month, meaning the club’s focus may very well be focused on building a successful group for the future rather than trying to purchase instant success.

The young centre forward’s 2021/22 season had it’s ups and downs. He made twenty four appearances scoring a decent ten goals and four assists. When you look deeper into those statistics it gets more impressive.

Of those twenty four games Ekitike was in the starting line up fifteen times. He also only completed a full ninety minutes on five occasions. Nine of those ten goals were from a centre forward role. While the single goal vs Strasbourg came from playing off the left wing.

There is no doubt that Hugo Ekitike knows where the goal is. He also has great feet, fantastic balance and is bursting with potential.

Warning

Ekitike wouldn’t be the first young player with huge potential to enter the Premier League. He can look at his fellow countryman Anthony Martial to see how easy it is to get distracted and never get close to tapping into the full extent of his talent.

The 2021/22 season also brought two red cards which brought a four game suspension. For Ekitike to succeed he is going to need discipline, focus, plenty of hard work and Newcastle to ensure he is surrounded by the right people.
