Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe Dundalk Move Expected to Be Announced Soon

Pre-season is well underway for League of Ireland clubs ahead of the 2021 Premier and First Division seasons, respectively.

Sides are starting to come together nicely for the most part. We are only about four weeks away from the return of Irish domestic football.

However, one player noticeably absent from Sligo Rovers is, Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe.

The 26-year-old joined the Bit O’Red ahead of the return of league action during last seasons forced break due to Covid-19.

Once his mandatory quarantine period was up, he made 14 appearances in the league and FAI cup during the unprecedented 2020 season. Netting two league goals in the process.

Since then, it has been common knowledge that Junior wouldn’t be returning to the West of Ireland as it was only seen as a short-term venture for the attacking player.

That doesn’t mean he is done with the League of Ireland heading into the 2021 campaign.

Junior Heading To Dundalk?

It’s believed that Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe will be making his way to Dundalk before the start of the 2021 Premier Division season, in what is reported to be a one-year deal.

The Louth side have lads like Pat Hoban, Dan Kelly, David McMillian, and new recruit Ole Eriks Midtskogen going forward.

Bringing in somebody that knows the league like Junior would be a wise decision by the club. Especially, when all their signings this season have come in from outside of the league, which can be risky business.

While Junior didn’t have the most noteworthy spell while at Sligo, he has proved himself in the league when able to have a full season under his belt.

Junior finished up as the Premier Division top goal scorer with 14 goals during the 2019 campaign.

This was during Junior’s one season spell at Derry City, on loan from Colchester United.

The signing of Junior would certainly bolster the attacking line up of the Lilywhites. His pace and quick feet really make him a handful for any defender. Junior does his best work out on the left-hand side, which was very evident during his time at Derry.

While Dundalk had a similar style of player in Nathan Oduwa last season, he has since left the club. Overall, Dundalk are getting a better finisher in Junior.

While this signing is one that’s gaining serious momentum, don’t expect it to be announced in the coming days. It’s more than likely to be made official by the end of this month.
