England defeat Pakistan to go 1-0 up in T20I series

The combination of Dawid Malan and Eoin Morgan saw England defeat Pakistan by five wickets at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The victory ensured England go into the final T20 International on Tuesday with a 1-0 series lead.

Despite Pakistan recording their highest ever T20 international score against England, it proved in vain thanks to Morgan’s heroics.

Captain Morgan delivers yet again

The England Captain hit 66 of 33 balls to share a century stand with Malan that took the game away from Pakistan.

An opening partnership of 66 between Tom Banton and Jonny Bairstow was ended when Bairstow(44) top edged sweeping. The Yorkshireman was caught at short fine leg off Shadab’s leg break’s. The youngster struck next ball to trap Banton(20) lbw and leave England 66-2.

Morgan avoided the hat trick delivery and proceeded with Malan to wrestle the game away from the visitors. The pair added 112 for the third wicket from only 64 balls before Morgan was caught in the deep.

England on course for victory

With 18 required from 19 deliveries England were favourites. Shadab bagged his third wicket when Moen Ali tamely steered the ball to mid-wicket with 14 needed to win.

A cameo innings from Sam Billings(10) off five balls virtually saw England home. With the scores level his cameo knock came to an end when he edged to backward-point.

Mr reliable Malan gets England over the line

It was down to the former Middlesex player Malan(54*) to hit the winning runs with five balls remaining. It was the highest successful T20 international run chase achieved against Pakistan.

Earlier, England won the toss and put Pakistan in to bat. Openers Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman put on 72 before Zaman(36) perished at long on off Adil Rashid.

The dangerous Azam made 56 off 44 balls before holing out to deep mid-wicket, to give Rashid his second scalp. It was down to Mohammad Hafeez who smashed 69 off 36 balls, as Pakistan ended their innings on 195-4.
