League of Ireland Premier Division Weekly Preview

Friday 13th of March 2020

SSE Airtricity Premier Division

Cork City vs Bohemians

Venue – Turners Cross, Cork.

Kick Off – 7.45 pm

Odds – Home Win 16/5 Draw 2/1 Away Win 10/11

Cork once again come into a week off the back of a defeat something that is becoming a regular occurrence for the Munster men. A decent first half performance against St. Pats last Friday wasn’t enough as they lacked pedigree in front of goal when the chances came. They come up against a Bohs side that have had a decent start to the season. A few setbacks aside the overall performances have been pleasing manager Keith Long. Danny Mandroiu and Kris Twadek have particularly impressed and they’ll be looking to put pressure on a back four with the most goals conceded this season so far.

Verdict – Bohemians

Derry City vs Sligo Rovers

Venue – Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, Derry.

Kick Off – 7.45 pm

Odds – Home Win 8/15 Draw 13/5 Away Win 9/2

Finally, something positive for the Sligo fans to be happy about. They may have been beaten in the clash of the Rovers last weekend, but they got themselves on the score sheet for the first time all season and put up an honest effort last Saturday. They’ll want to start turning positives into results now and fast. They face a Derry side who have had an underwhelming start to their season winning just one of their four games. Stephen Mallon will fancy himself against a makeshift Sligo defence after scoring in his last two games. He could be the difference maker in what could be a tight game up North.

Verdict – Derry City

Shelbourne vs Waterford

Venue – Tolka Park, Dublin.

Kick Off – 7.45 pm

Odds – Home Win 7/5 Draw 2/1 Away Win 15/8

This game isn’t one for your accumulator’s lads as both teams come into this game with two wins and two defeats from their first four games. Shels come in off the back of a disappointing defeat to rivals Bohemians last Friday. While Waterford got the better of Derry with two more possible goal of the season contenders. No Waterford striker has pitched in with a goal yet this season and that will need to change soon if they want to keep their heads above water. Tough one to call this certainly not a banker.

Verdict – Draw

Dundalk vs St. Patricks Athletic

Venue – Oriel Park, Dundalk.

Kick Off – 8.00 pm

Odds – Home Win 2/5 Draw 3/1 Away Win 6/1

Dundalk let everyone down by not scoring an internet breaking goal last Friday up in Ballybofey the neck of them. We shall let them away with it as they looked back to their best with a comfortable 4-0 win over Finn Harps. St. Pats also come into this game off the back of a win to Cork City. The Saints will need to find some consistency with their results and starting 11 sooner rather than later. The have looked consistent at the back at least conceding only two goals but will be without Ollie Younger who suffered a nasty head injury last Friday. Dundalk’s newest arrival Nathan Oduwa will be looking to make his mark early if he gets the nod to make his debut on Friday.

Shamrock Rovers vs Finn Harps

Venue – Tallaght Stadium, Dublin.

Kick Off – 8.00 pm

Odds – Home Win 1/8 Draw 11/2 Away Win 16/1

Rovers continued their 100% record with a hard-fought win over Sligo last Saturday. Everything is clicking for them on both ends of the pitch and they seem a team full of confidence. This won’t be good news for Finn Harps fresh off a bad defeat to reigning champions Dundalk. Facing the most in form team in the league won’t be the easiest way to get back on track. They are now coming off back to back defeats and conceded five goals in their last two games. Music to the ears of a free scoring Shamrock Rovers side.

Verdict – Shamrock Rovers
